The parameter of effluent regulations such as BOD or TSS had been believed to be good indicators of clear water. In the future there will be a strong need to release cleaner effluent that would have less impact on the aquatic biota. In addition to general analysis of pulp and paper mill effluents, JPRI also conducts high-precision analysis focused on heavy metals, chlorates, organic halogens such as AOX, Wood extractives, Dioxins and PCB. We also evaluate the biological degradability of these substances. In addition, we provide advice on processes by identifying the causes of biological impacts through our comprehensive studies combining bioassays and chemical analysis.

BOD:
biochemical oxygen demand
TSS:
total suspended solids
AOX:
absorbable organic halogens
(the amount of organic halogens)
Wood extractives: consist of many bioactive compounds
Dioxins:
known as endocrine disrupters
